4. What have the Portuguese musicians done in the previous editions of SXSW

The answer to the question “How did Portuguese musicians behave in the previous editions of SXSW” turned out to be more difficult to answer than what I initially expected. The problem was not on identifying the musicians that were present each year, instead it was finding news or articles that were any bit interesting, amongst hundreds of links to websites, posts, etc, which had little to do with what I was looking for...

Funny enough, in the video domain, despite the scenario not being that rich, there are two sets of very interesting “documentaries”. On one hand David Fonseca’s web episodes in 2007 and 2008; on the other hand, the 2008 SXSW coverage that Portuguese artist Jel made to the TV channel "SIC Radical".

First of all, here is the list that I managed to gather of the Portuguese musicians that were at the festival, which is still very short, as you can see:

2002
The Gift

2007
David Fonseca
X-Wife
You Should Go Ahead

2008
Bildmeister
David Fonseca
Kalashnikov
Norton
Zé dos Frangos

Here you have the pages at My Space for all of them:

As the videos are concerned, here is the documentary in three parts made by Jel for SIC Radical about the SXSW’08. Unfortunately, the sound of the first part was censured by YouTube and some pieces of it are spoken in Portuguese...

Tomorrow and on the following day, stop by to watch the web episodes of David Fonseca about the SXSW'07 and SXSW'08.

See you tomorrow.
