Here are some of the first pictures taken at SXSW’09. They’re all not retouched although some need it. I’ll do that when I return.
Before anything else, the entrance of my Hotel.

Mind your own business!”. First thing at the Austin Convention Center entrance... The father and brother of this kid, although not in the picture, were also very committed to the Lego. I engaged a conversation and asked permission to photograph them but the youngest, as hard as I tried to catch his attention, ignored me completely. Even the camera flash did not interest him.

One of Austin Convention Center's entrances.

“Promo Post”. It doesn’t show up in the picture but one could read it a little more above in this pillar of the Convention Center. As the musicians pass by glued there advertisements for their concerts, projects and websites.

Resting area...

The British stand at SXSW Trade Show.

The Spanish stand.

This girl was filming some of the interviews being made at the time. When she realized that I was photographing her she was so embarrassed that I almost had to apologise to her! I then asked to take some more pictures while she was filming and she very kindly acquiesced.

International Speed Dating!

When I started photographing this stand, the three girls present literally started to run everywhere laughing, without knowing how to act in front of the camera...I asked them to take some pictures and for them to act naturally...ignore that I was there..and, two or three pictures later...

Same stand...

This couple was at the Convention Centre promoting their music. Everybody noticed the girl with the blond hair, the makeup eyes and the pink flower in her hair.

The vinyl rebirth... John Coltrane, Clash, Jimi Hendrix... TV on the Radio, Radiohead...

Taylor guitars stand.

The Austin Chronicle stand, one of the main local newspapers. I had no idea that it existed when I started writing these chronicles...

I could’t manage to figure out if this “duo” was promoting some musical project or if it was just hanging there, as it could be somewhere else...

Japonese stand.

Another “artist” cruising by Austin

This girl had the ribbon of her badge covered with pins of bands and musicians. And no, I was not photographing every “skirts” I found that morning! :-)
Uma actuação num dos stands do Trade Show.:-)

A performance at one of the Trade Show stands.

I can’t remember this stand name but it wasn’t Apple’s...

Mor pictures from the same stand.

And, another South by Southwest “character”!

Queue to the musicians SXSW registration. I was using a large zoom, I wasn’t exactly on the floor aiming to photograph the legs and feet of people passing by...

Still the queue.

When I was going down the escalators, I started to photograph the people that were coming up and down and looked at the camera. I got this reaction when this guy saw me...very cool!

It’s always funny to get the curiosity expression of someone that realises that is about to be photographed.

A wider picture of the Promo Post.

I do not know them..I believe that they’re Spanish. If anyone knows them and can tell me their name...

I stared photographing this Cutlass in the middle of the street. A very pretty girl was driving it and when she saw mw photographing her she stopped traffic and smiled while she waiting for me to take the picture. Unfortunately the photographer managed to ruin the picture with the smile and only this was left... :-(
More interesting was to see how the traffic was still for a few seconds without any sort of complaints while waiting for me!

I haven’t confirmed it yet but I think it is called Austin Tower. It’s the biggest building in town.

T.P.S.F.I. - This Picture Speaks For Itself!

This duo was performing on one of the E. 6th Street corners. I was there for 5 minutes watching their dedication to singing...and how they got more attention that practically every other 2000 bands that the Festival encompasses...They seemed Brazilian by the accent that they’re English singing had, but in the end I did not engaged a conversation to find it out. Maybe I’ll see them again here.

Another T.P.S.F.I.!

Around 1pm on E. 6th Street.

Picture taken at the pizza place where I had lunch...!

Does anyone know these 2 gentlemen that calmly sat to rest close to where I was eating? ;-) A possible clue...could they have started to be famous in the alternative music in the 80’s?

I noticed this guy still in the middle of traffic and started to photograph him. When he realised that, he waited for the picture and turned his “friend” head to the camera! Again, traffic was still behind them for 15 or 20 seconds without any type of protest while I took pictures!

I liked the strenght with which this man that seemed over 50 years old was pushing everything he had up the street...I think I’ll make this picture black and white later....

An intelligent solution of the bike transport! When I looked for the first time at the Bus, I didn’t quite realise how the bike had got there..if by option or as a result of some close encounter...

The environmental spirit at the elevator arriving to the St. David’s Church.

See you soon. Some more pictures and the Clã and Nicole’s performances later...
